A Federal Mahogany Work Stand, c.1810

a mahogany one drawer stand; cedar drawer sides and a poplar drawer bottom are indicative of a Mid-Atlantic or Southern origin; the scratch beading around the drawer front could be a Maryland or Virginia maker's provincial response to the applied beading seen on higher style Baltimore or Philadelphia pieces; in excellent structural condition with old finish surface imperfections (ink and abrasions), a chip to the inlaid diamond keyhole escutcheon, and old replaced ring pulls using the original off-set post holes; dimensions: 28 3/4" x 21 1/2" x15 3/4" deep; a nearly identical table with a Centerville, Maryland provenance is in The Sewell C. Biggs Collection, Volume I, p.65, item #47; another related table can be found in Burton's Charleston Furniture, 1700-1825, p.102, fig. 107
