A Federal Mahogany Pembroke,

Baltimore, c.1820

a late Federal mahogany Pembroke or breakfast table; these Baltimore versions of heavily reeded legs, inspired by the English Regency style, emulated the fasces lictoriae of ancient Rome; the knee allowances in the aprons, in addition to being practical, result in a subtle but effective lightening of the proportions; secondary woods are tulip poplar and white oak; dimensions: 28 1/2" tall x 36" long x 24 3/4" wide (leaves down)
