American School Still Life; by Edward Chalmers Leavitt

Leavitt, Edward Chalmers (Rhode Island, 1842-1904); Still Life with Fruit, Decanter, and Wine Glass; c.1890; oil on canvas; signed lower left; in what appears to be its’ original gilt composition over wood frame; among his larger works, this beautifully composed example adheres more exactingly than most to the Dutch still life tradition; the painting is in excellent condition, un-lined with no repairs or in-painting; dimensions: 20″ x 30″

Born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island, Edward C. Leavitt studied under James M. Lewin and possibly Martin J.
