Early American Furnishings

English School Landscape, 1870

Leslie, Charles (1835-1890), an English school oil on canvas landscape of cattle watering with village in the distance; while Leslie was known for his more typical renderings of the Scottish highlands and dramatic views of lochs, this pastoral image appears to be of a more southern region; in fact, if not for the pyramidal thatched roof in the central mid-ground, this might even be mistaken for an American vista; there is a small (approx. 3/4 inch) repair to the central sky; signed lower left and dated 1870; the frame is original; image dimensions: 21 3/8″ x 35 1/4″
