A pair of late Chippendale style mahogany side chairs; both retain their original yellow pine slip seats; single peg construction lacks through-tenons; in an old nut brown finish; descended through the family of Judge Thomas Briggs Jones (1735-1812) who settled on Patapsco Neck near Baltimore and built his home “Walnut Grove”; his grandfather was Philip Jones, first surveyor of Baltimore Towne in 1730; there is a repair to one splat “finger” as well as a repair to one stretcher at juncture with leg (both on the same chair); dimensions: 38 ¼” tall @ crest rail x 21 ¾” wide @ front rail
