a Federal carved mahogany “modified shield-back” or urn back side chair; probably Annapolis or Baltimore, nearly identical examples can be seen in the collections of Mount Vernon and Hampton National Historic Site; chairs of the same form have histories of ownership in both the Ridout and Scott Houses of Annapolis (Weidman, Furniture in Maryland, 1740-1940); the chair is in excellent structural condition; patching to two small chips in the rail edge molding and Twentieth Century seat frame and corner blocks; dimensions: 37 3/4″ tall @ crest rail x 20 3/4″ wide @ front rail
