a pair of mahogany “modified-shield back” side chairs; both retain their original tulip poplar slip-seats; in an early 20th Century alligatored finish; while possibly made in Baltimore, this English, George III inspired form, including the “stylized pierced tulip splat”, was more prevalent in Annapolis as seen in the chairs of John Shaw; repair to one stile below juncture with crest rail; dimensions: 16 7/8″ tall @ front rail x 21″ wide @ front rail x 38 1/4″ tall @ crest rail
